"The City of Springfield says it would pay $250,000 to the parents and attorneys of a man fatally shot by a police officer in February. If a judge approves the proposed settlement, the city and former officer Andrew Bath would not be held liable for the death of Michael Ireland.
Attorneys for Ireland's family filed the proposed wrongful death lawsuit settlement in Greene County Circuit Court on Thursday afternoon.
Ireland ran from another officer in northwest Springfield on a snowy winter night. Bath arrived at the scene and chased Ireland through some front and back yards. They met at a fence gate at the back corner of a home, and Bath shot Ireland, who died at the scene. Bath was in his final two weeks with the city after accepting a job in another state.
Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Patterson ruled in May that Bath was justified in his shooting of Ireland, who was unarmed." https://tinyurl.com/omlprsm
